South Farm Weddings: Why This Hertfordshire Venue is Special In Every Season
South Farm, set on the border between Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, is a beautiful wedding venue all year round. With gardens that are bursting with flowers in spring and summer, to Romany and Showman Wagons that add playful character in the colder months, there really is something for every couple in this 20 acre plot of land!
We have been fortunate enough to shoot many weddings at South Farm over the years, each one with its own unique character and small details that make it special. From intimate weddings of just 30 people, right up to huge 150+ guest lists, this venue easily adapts to wedding parties of all sizes so it’s no wonder it gets booked up so far in advance!
With a Tudor barn, Old Dairy, country house Drawing Room and their iconic yellow and blue farmhouse all on-site, there are always plenty of South Farm spots for us to shoot newlyweds and their loved ones. Which season’s pictures are your favourite? Check out some of our South Farm weddings below:
Spring Wedding: Justyna & Daniel
Spring was in full bloom for Justyna and Daniel’s May wedding, and the flowers didn’t disappoint! One of my recommended suppliers Lucy from The Stable Blooms created Justyna and Daniel’s bouquets and displays, and she chose the palest pinks, blushes and whites to complement their elegant colour scheme. From meadow aisles, to the smallest buttonholes, each one was beautifully arranged and brought their springtime vision to life.
The couple chose their friend’s handmade pottery as wedding favours, which was such a unique touch and practical gift for their family and friends. Given how much I love pottery-making in my spare time, it was a winner for me!
Our favourite moment? The ceremony. Daniel’s son was the ring-bearer and melted everyone’s hearts as he carefully carried both rings down the aisle. It was the perfect way to bring both families together before the couple read their vows.

Spring Wedding: Charlotte & Ash
There are spring weddings, and there are spring weddings. This one absolutely nailed the brief. By the time Charlotte and Ash’s April wedding day arrived, it felt like knew them well. We did their prewedding shoot by the Cambourne Lakes so it was very easy when it came to their wedding photos!
As with many a spring wedding, the flowers were the stars of the show. Another recommended florist of ours, Cissy at Wild Stems, provided a range of florals, including tiny bud vases on all the tables and a gorgeous floor-standing floral hoop that was the perfect backdrop as the couple stood in front of everyone and read their vows. Charlotte and Ash got married indoors in the Old Dairy, so after the ceremony we headed outside as the sun started to shine.
South Farm’s daffodils and blossoms were everywhere at this time of year, so we made use of the venue’s gardens for these pictures and got plenty in front of the house.
Charlotte’s long-sleeved dress was a showstopper with its tiny cuff button details, as was their three-tiered springtime cake covered in - you guessed it - spring flowers. It really was the most beautiful April day.

Summer Wedding: Lauren & Tom
Lauren and I instantly connected through our mutual love of cats! She and her fiance Tom were planning a BIG July wedding - so big, in fact, that they had more people in their bridal party than I’d ever seen. With 11 bridesmaids and 8 groomsmen to get into one shot, it was our job to ensure nobody was missing from the lineup. Lauren’s bouquet was also the biggest we had ever seen in our photography career, so they were breaking a lot of records in our books!
Despite there being a lot of guests to entertain, the day went really smoothly. Lauren and Tom’s baby was carried into the ceremony by Lauren’s brother with a sign that read: “Daddy, here comes Mummy”, which instantly had people reaching for the tissues. The couple ended their day with a ceilidh to celebrate Lauren’s Scottish heritage and the music was fantastic. The ultimate party for long summer nights.

Autumn Wedding: Alice & James
Alice and James’ October wedding might have been one of our more recent ones, but we knew about their big day a mind-blowing 2.5 years before it happened! Alice enquired for their 2024 wedding back in early 2022, and despite LOVING her enthusiasm, I had to tell her to wait until our books were only open a little later in the year. Wait she did, and as soon as her dates were available, Alice got back in touch for both a pre-wedding shoot and the wedding day itself.
Autumn at South Farm was the perfect choice for this trendy couple, with orange flowers everywhere and gothic-looking climbers up the house walls. Alice got ready by doing her own makeup in the bridal suite, and if wedding planning was stressful for this couple, you would never have known. Every part of their day was relaxed - even down to their temporary tattoo station that had a guest in her 90s rocking up to get their names on her arm!
All the food was vegetarian, and the couple’s love of animals meant we had to get a few shots of the South Farm pigs in, and Alice didn’t even mind when they started snuffling all over her white dress. Their pre-wedding shoot was set in a gothic forest, so for the wedding day itself we made good use of lanterns and smoke bombs to capture the gothic autumnal feel the couple were after. Given Alice’s DJing background, it was no surprise when she rocked the stage with her own 30-minute DJ set late in the evening to keep the party going. We were even lucky enough to see the northern lights!
It was an October wedding to remember - and one we will never forget.

Autumn Wedding: Lucy & Henry
Intimate weddings are such a nice contrast to the big parties, and Lucy and Henry’s October autumn wedding felt super cosy throughout the entire day. We met them in Ely for their pre wedding shoot on a May evening which is a lovely contrast to their autumn wedding - we usually recommend the opposite season for pre-wedding shoots!
Their ceremony, complete with only 30 close guests, was hosted in the house, and Henry shed many a tear as Lucy walked down the aisle. We had lots of time to grab pictures around South Farm’s grounds, and the couple’s wedding breakfast was beautifully designed on one long table packed with candles, brown paper wrapped wedding favours, and greenery so everyone could chat, toast and drink together.
Lucy’s bridesmaids wore the most gorgeous deep burgundy dresses that were a dream to shoot, with long sleeves and texture that changed as they walked. Given the smaller numbers, it meant that everybody got lots of time with the bride and groom - a rarity on many wedding days! We used colourful smoke bombs in the evening to add to South Farm’s autumnal atmosphere, and there were canapes and food keeping guests full and happy long into the night!
